Biography
Professor Andrew R. Bray joined the Department of Linguistics in August 2023. He graduated with his PhD from the University of Georgia in 2022. His dissertation, A Hockey-Based Persona: The Sociolinguistic Impact of Canadian English on American-Born Players, was advised by Chad Howe (Chair), Keith Langston, and Margaret E. L. Renwick. Prior to coming to Rochester, he was an Instructor of Linguistics at the University of Georgia. His research focuses on the construction and outward display of linguistic identities utilizing the sociolinguistic framework of indexicality.Research Overview
Professor Bray has conducted research with multiple professional and amateur hockey teams from the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, ECHL, Canadian Hockey League, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
