Teaching AY 12-13
Fall 2012
LIN 210 Language Sound Structures, attendance at weekly Workshops required
The goal of the course is to provide a solid base of knowledge about linguistic phonetics and phonological patterns in spoken language, focusing on sound segments. Focus is on understanding the basis of assumptions about phonemes and allophonic variation through studying acoustic and articulatory phonetics, acoustic analysis of speech sounds, and phonological patterns. Building good transcription skills is an intergral part of the course. Students are encouraged to do a project working with a speaker of a language to provide a basic phonetic descirption of the sound patterns in that language.
